Contacts: ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, May 26, 1998 - AlliedSignal Power Systems, a subsidiary of AlliedSignal Inc. (NYSE:ALD), announced today that it has selected the greater Albuquerque area for the site of its business headquarters and North American assembly plant for TurboGenerator™ Power Systems.
"Today
marks an important milestone for our business, bringing us one step closer to
our new product launch," said Tony Prophet, President and CEO of AlliedSignal
Power Systems. "By the end of this year, we will begin production of our
TurboGenerator™ power system - a revolutionary product that will allow small businesses
and institutions to generate power right on site - cleanly, safely, quietly and
economically." The system is ideal for a variety of businesses and institutions, including convenience stores, supermarkets, fast food restaurants, small office buildings and small factories. Any business with electricity demands between 75 kilowatts and one megawatt of power can benefit from the 75 kW TurboGenerator™ power system. Businesses that require more than 75 kW of power may simply combine multiple units to deliver up to one megawatt of power. For businesses and industries in rural areas, the TurboGenerator™ is particularly useful. Since it delivers power right at the point of use, the typical problems associated with transmission and distribution wires are non-existent. AlliedSignal will apply for
an industrial revenue bond to finance the purchase of the former Levi Strauss
manufacturing plant. If the bond is issued, the company expects to start production
at this site later this year. "We are still assessing our options and are
considering the former Levi Strauss site in northern Albuquerque, but we are also
investigating other sites within the greater Albuquerque area," said Bob
Walton, Director of Manufacturing Planning. AlliedSignal
Power Systems estimates that year 2000 revenues will exceed $150 million. While
commercial production of the TurboGenerator™ power system is not scheduled to
begin until later this year, almost all of the company's 1999 production has been
pre-sold. |
